Death of a Dairy CowMy time to die is close now Though I'm too tired to fight I see many others 'round me Struggling with all their mightMy bones, my skin, my innards ache Worn out before my years Soon to die, and I am glad My fatigue outweighs my fearsMany offspring I have bore Though I have reared noneI have grieved for each of my babies, Never known where they have goneMy life is to be extinguished Though I am heavily with calf I want to die, though fear for the pain To be inflicted on this unborn lifeThe pain and terror of my slaughter Will be less to bear than was my life But I feel terror for my little one To know nothing save the slaughterman's knifeI'm offloaded with the others Herded and beaten to the killing floor White eyes of terror all around me, When my life will be extinguished, I am not sureI'm next...I'm restrained...I shit myself A bolt is held to my head A second and it will all be over? I welcome being dead Please let my baby's death be quick...The Cost of an OmeletteEggs, milk and cheese, no animal is hurtThat is what I used to thinkI would never eat meat, but I'll have a cheese omeletteAnd a big glass of cold milk to drinkOmelette's are great, no cruelty involvedCruelty? I won't take the blame!I'm doing my bit and I feel nice and smugBernie the veggie's my name! Then one day...I was surfing the net, can't remember quite whyIt must have been 'my time' to learnWhat's this? By-products? Calves? Chicks? My stomach had started to churnThe male chicks are useless so are crushed, gassed or shreddedMale calves are disposed of at birthSo I can have milk, cheese and eggs for my teaI never knew of such cruelty on earthSo finally I had gotten to the truth, to the factsIt's not only meat that is cruelWhen animals are 'used', pain's an inevitable costI can't believe I have been such a foolEven if ONE calf or chick dies in painIt would be one too many I fearBut it's not one or two, but millions of livesbeing taken for us every yearI've since become vegan, I've realised the cost,of an omelette is just much too dear. Short Answer Response-The first Poem is called, “Death of a Dairy cow” by, Bernie Jones. The second poem is by the same person, It’s called “The cost of an omelette”. They're both similar because they talk about animal cruelty. The first talks about a mom cow getting her baby taken away. It expressed things wrong with the dairy industry. It tells the story from the cow’s perspective. The dairy industry is an awful thing. For example,”My bones, my skin, my innards ache ,Worn out before my years , Soon to die, and I am glad ,My fatigue outweighs my fears. “ The girl cows have babies upon babies until they are just killed for their meat. In the second poem it talks about learning the truth behind the food people are eating. Somebody is explaining an omelette and how simple to us that is, but how life changing to animals it is. For example, “So I can have milk, cheese and eggs for my tea, I never knew of such, cruelty on earth, So finally I had gotten to the truth, to the facts, It's not only meat that is cruel”. This is talking about how not just killing the animals is cruel but using them for our food is really twisted as well.
